There was a time where I thought that blogging was reserved for people who only wish to create a website of their own for a hobby. I never thought of it as a medium for a person's skill in creative writing which they can use to showcase their talents when it comes to the writing industry.
In fact, I thought that blogging is another form of social media interaction with other people.
According to Dictionary.com's definition, I may be somehow right. A blog, it says, "is a website that contains a writer's or a group of writers' own experiences, observations, opinions, etc...."
The only part where I may somehow be wrong in my impression on blogging is on the part where it says that it is posted on a website, rather than a social media platform, such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and others.
The reason why I thought that this was so is because my primary exposure to blogging was in the form of Tumblr links. I was not yet aware that certain sites that I visited were legitimate blogging websites, such as WordPress and Blogger.com.
Now, why did I finally decide to post my works on a blog, rather than preserve my social media posts on these platforms, and build my fame from there?
Simple.
Social media websites have a shorter lifespan as compared to blogging websites.
If you have noticed a certain trend lately, Facebook and Twitter are facing a decline in their viewership because of some changes in their laws and Community Standard Guidelines that some users are beginning to disagree with.
This is mainly because of the fact that most of these mainstream social media websites are becoming too politically-charged for their own good.
I am not saying that this is bad - social media platforms can have their own political sentiments. The reason why I decided to create a blog because of this event is because there may come a time where I may no longer be able to recover my previous works on these sites.
I have spent so much time in pouring my time and effort into these pieces in order for me to finally be able to use my craft, not only as a hobby meant for therapy and catharsis, for professional reasons.
I will elaborate how exactly I got into the literary world in another post, I guess.
