Why I Chose Ducks as My Theme

Mandarin Ducks
This is my laptop's wallpaper.

Some people may have wondered where I got my love for all things that are related to ducks, especially Mandarin ducks. Though we all know that ducks can be cute, they're not really as popular as dogs or cats.

For other people who knew me in the past, maybe around high school, they knew that I loved cats so much that I meow randomly and would interact with a few of them with meows.

So why switch to ducks all of a sudden?

It's rather simple, really.

I had a fascination with ducklings as a child and kept ducks in my house as pets. Most of them died either due to illnesses or my dog attacking them, but I never grew out of my love for ducks.

However, when I finally got into a relationship, our usual term of endearment which was "baby" turned into "bibi".

The Filipino language uses the word "bibe" to refer to ducks. Sometimes, the letter "e" can be interchanged with the letter "i" and it won't affect the meaning of the word since Tagalog usually interchanged letters in their texts back in the day, and it's still accepted today.

Since I knew that ducks were usually polygamous, I had to find a specific type of duck that was usually used as a symbol of love for other cultures.

In came Mandarin ducks.

I immediately fell in love with the colors of the Mandarin duck, both male and female, and decided that I would keep some as pets in the future. In order to remind myself of this, I decided to use Mandarin ducks as the symbol of my relationship with my partner.

Now, I use it almost everywhere, including this site.

Since Mandarin ducks also uses nests, I decided to name my site The Duck's Nest.
