Whoever said you can do anything you want in the world is severely overlooking the fact that you're supposed to take practicality in mind whenever you want to make it big... and lucky for our generation, we now have social media to thank! This is one of the best ways for us to "skip" the agency middlemen and get famous in a snap.
Well... almost.
Back in the day, we only became famous due to the most extraordinary deeds or thoughts that we may have done or spouted from our mouths which would have been picked up by journalism firms. Either that, or we marketed ourselves to stardom.
Either way, this kind of stardom usually lasted a long time since we were able to see that media outlets were able to keep our names in the headlines for weeks or months, until we finally fade into obscurity. Once a source has been traced, sometimes multiple outlets tend to report on the same scoop to ensure that they have the "better" side of the picture from the rest.
Nowadays, with the help of social media, we can claim our little rise to stardom in as few as some viral posts for a "no-effort" video that you made. This can help you rise into infamy or mini-celebrity status without actually having to do stuff that is needed from all the things we used to do in the past.
However, if you're a person that wants to ensure that you're going to live off of this kind of career path, which is being a influencer/social media celebrity, then it's a challenge to actually keep your name relevant.
The changing and shortening span of attention that lots of media outlets have as well as their audiences can make it hard for you to make a living if you really choose to choose this lifestyle. If your face value, name, and charisma are good enough, then you'll be able to have a claim to fame... eventually.
It always happens by chance, they say. Just doing lots of effort trying to become an influencer is eventually going to make you tired.
Really though, unless you're born from a rich nepo family like most influencers traditionally are, then you're probably going to run out of money before you make it big... especially if you want to do everything they do and possibly top it off.
In the end, unless you have immense talent that will get you a really distinct name and brand, you should always keep in mind the practicality of social media's ever-changing atmosphere.
The only advice that we as content writers can tell to the influencers are one thing: adaptability. If they will continue to stick to their niche for a long time, then all they have to do is actually ensure that they'll stand out from the crowd who will try to do the same thing eventually.
Trends and setting trends are something content creators have the capability of creating, especially when we decide to venture into the journalism industry, after all.
